The Browns 'Diss' Peyton Hillis and franchise tag Phil Dawson?
Dawson, also known as "Mr. Dependable" has been with the Browns since their re-birth in 1999, will play another year at age 37--good news following the on-going saga of Peyton Hillis. Friday, a mouthpiece for the team ( team spokesman ) stated that the Browns do plan to use the franchise tag--for the second straight year--on Dawson!
Setting aside all the "hoopla" on again and off again drama surrounding the contract negotiations regarding Hillis--rumors of him wanting to join the C.I.A.--this may be a dramatic move by the otherwise silent Browns front office. Dawson is truly the definition of a Cleveland Brown!
In his second year of being franchised, Dawson will receive roughly 3.8 million, a tad more than last years 3.25 million, this is good news as Dawson would have become an unrestricted free agent if the Browns had not acted in a way to keep the valuable player wearing the orange helmet!
Dawson, coming off one of his best seasons and saying he would like to finish his career with the Browns can still be signed to a long term contract if the Browns choose to do so. Dawson has been the one factor in the Browns offense that could be considered one that could be count on, so this is a great decision by the Browns.
Placing the franchise tag on Dawson is a great move by the Browns, however it does eliminate one more possibility for Hillis, who must now rely solely on contract negotiations! Tags: hot , News , players , today
