Peyton Hillis 'Cans' agent, will the Browns end Negotiations

Just days after the Cleveland Browns made an offer, an attempt to resign Peyton Hillis, he has for the third time in one year changed agents. Originally reported by Josina Anderson of ESPN, Hillis has now dumped his agent Kennard McGuire whos' replacement will be unknown for a few days due to the  NFL policy that a player must wait five days after he sends a letter of termination to the NFL Player Association before he can sign with a new agent.

As the deadline approaches for franchising players (Monday) it is the opinion of numerous sports writers and analysts that the Browns will not place the franchise tag on Hillis. If the Browns do not place the tag on Hillis, at a cost of 7.7 million for 2012 and do not come to an agreement on his contract--Hillis will become a unrestricted free agent on Mar. 13.

Rumors last week surfaced that the Browns were close to finalizing a contract with Hillis along with another just days ago suggesting the Browns had offered a three year, incentive packed contract, and now the news that he has canned his agent. Taking into consideration that Hillis has the final say-so as to whether he accepts any offer, this would imply that he is not happy with the amount and/or the incentives in the offer--which in turn would make one believe he is not happy with his agents ability to get that "massive money" contract!

The rumor mill keeps churning along with suggestions that Hillis is seeking elite, upper-tier running-back cash, if this is the case it is not the agents fault--Hillis needs to come back down to earth.

Hillis, since being a Brown, has had one good season, a season where he was the only true threat in an otherwise dysfunctional offense. He is a vital component of the Browns' offense and will be missed if he cannot be resigned, however he does not warrant the type of contract given to the upper-level running-backs in the NFL who have proven to be effective and consistent.

If Hillis is canning his agents because they cannot get the contract he may seek, a contract that the Browns are unwilling to enter into, he may find himself a reflection of the Browns offense--three and out. If he believes that he is that valuable and willing to test the waters of free agency, then he may find that the Browns do not share his opinion of his value.

If Hillis is in fact approaching the contract negotiations with a "prima dona" attitude, he will be unhappy with the attitude of the Cleveland Browns!

Hillis can't expect much on a one year performance! He will stay with the Browns and be happy if he even gets a contract with them!!

Yes A6--Hillis performed well in his first year--however, so do many QBs' until the opponents figure them out. Hillis needs to set aside the notions of him being a prima dona and realize that the only reason he is on the Madden cover is the fan vote. He has yet to prove that he can be a consistent benefit to the Browns--therefore he needs to prove his worth--which he has not done!!

Hillis was a one year wonder! He should be happy if the Browns have mercy on him and even OFFER him a contract!
