Quarterback Controversy in Cleveland
by Unknown
Now, I knew that would get your attention. Yes, a Quarterback controversy in Cleveland, now that is such a rare thing. Oh--remnants of last year with the "Who's The Man"--Brady or Derek show. It seems the Cleveland Browns are always surrounded by the QB controversy. Part of this problem, if not the major part of the problem--is the media. Ya see, the media loves gossip and creates stories to gain readers--"Shock and Aah shucks".I just cannot wait to hear the fallout over the latest "Close One" engineered by Delhomme and of course Daboll in the Carolina Panthers game. Who's gonna start against Miami? Is Delhomme the starter? What's up with Wallace? Do you want Fry's with that? OK--enough humor!
There were too many expletives going through my mind at that point," Mangini said. "'We should not be here lining up for a kick,' is what was going through my mind."
Not surprisingly, one thing not going through Mangini's mind after the game is committing to Delhomme going forward.
"I want to see where Colt (McCoy) is," Mangni said. "Jake did a lot of good things in the game and, obviously, the one thing that we can't have is turnovers. That's not a secret, he knows that and that's what we need offensively. So that has to be eliminated for us to move forward.
Jake did a lot of good things in the game and, obviously, the one thing that we can't have is turnovers.
Mangini, in his norm, would not put down a player, however Mangini was quick to state "the one thing that we can't have is turnovers." That statement probably refers to the two INT's that Delhomme threw to open the second half--one returning for a TD.
"So that has to be eliminated for us to move forward." Eliminated? Mangini knows Delhomme's recent history regarding "Turnovers", he also knows that a veteran is less likely to make the bad reads and mental errors that caused these turnovers than a rookie, however that is not the case in Cleveland--Delhomme 2 Int's in the first two drives of the second half--McCoy 3 Int's in 5 games ( not saying that McCoy will not have his day). By the way--where is Wallace? I looked at the depth chart, and he is still on it, so why did Mangini mention "I want to see where Colt (McCoy) is," instead of the backup? Wallace is ( the last I heard ) the backup, and McCoy the clipboard holder, or has that changed?
Given the fact that Mangini is tight lipped on discussing his starting QB's, his statement--"I want to see where Colt (McCoy) is," is testament to his faith in this rookie--how could you question a veteran starter, and dare to think of starting the rookie? I am not anointing McCoy as the "one that is going to take us there" yet, however I will say this.............
Colt McCoy has proven (thus far), that he has the swagger (still do not know what that is--but I like the word), he will go the distance (injured or not), and has a thirst to win. He is accurate, and a "self-critic" who is driven to perfection--the kid's got "Moxie". Add that to his thirst for knowledge of the game, and his ability to overcome being the "underdog"(he's been that since high school), and yes--he remains calm under pressure.
Is Colt McCoy the future QB of the Cleveland Browns?--of course not--He is the QB of the Cleveland Browns, and Mangini may agree with me--"I want to see where Colt (McCoy) is,"
