Browns Win Despite Delhomme, Daboll
by Unknown
There were too many expletives going through my mind at that point," Mangini said. "'We should not be here lining up for a kick,' is what was going through my mind."
Not surprisingly, one thing not going through Mangini's mind after the game is committing to Delhomme going forward.
"I want to see where Colt (McCoy) is," Mangni said. "Jake did a lot of good things in the game and, obviously, the one thing that we can't have is turnovers. That's not a secret, he knows that and he understands that and that's what we need offensively. So that has to be eliminated for us to move forward.
Well, the smoke has settled. The Browns beat the Panthers--barely. That would be the Carolina Panthers, with a 1 and 9 record entering the game, a low ranked defense, low ranked offensive, and a rookie QB who's Stats border pathetic. The Browns however entered the game with their starting QB, a decent offense, and a usually hard fighting defense, so--what happened. Delhomme's play in the second half and an Offensive Coach who did not make adjustments--that's what happened.
Jake Delhomme started the game in a flurry, completeing passes to numerous receivers including--yes--Momass and Robo. The Offensive line was holding up and Delhomme showed accuracy, calm, good decision and execution, Hillis--well--he was just being Hillis, running over and through people on his way to three TD's.
The Browns scored 3 points in the second half, after scoring 21 in the first. The Panthers made adjustments allowing them to put pressure on Delhomme, while the browns stuck to their original plan, Jake made bad reads, looked hurried, threw 2 INT's and made some bad decisions (Trying to throw the ball as your being tackled). Due to Delhomme's "Meltdown", and the lack of Browns Coaches to make any kind of adjustments (we have seen this before) the game would come down to the Panthers missed field goal--handing the Browns a win, it should never have come to that.
The Browns are a better team than their record shows (at times). The 1st half showed the Browns dominating a team, in route to a blowout win. The second half showed a Browns team struggling to maintain a lead. If the Carolina Panters had won---Their Head Coach would surely have given the game ball to Delhomme and Daboll!!
