The Browns are a miserable condition, says Mario Manningham

The Cleveland Browns have yet to make what anyone would consider a big signing in free agency, could this be because no-one wants to come to Cleveland? Yes, Cleveland is not home to the most favorable weather with winter months that can be brutal, however if you combine the weather with the somewhat dysfunctional state of the Browns is it truly "A miserable combination"?

Mario Manningham, native of Warren Ohio does not hold back when asked about the possibility of going to the Browns:

"A lot of players wouldn't (want to play in Cleveland). Like, I'm not trying to put the organization down," he said just before putting the organization down. "But a lot of players, that wouldn't be in their top choices. Because everybody says how cold it is in Cleveland. And team-wise … so it's a miserable combination."

Well, that was a powerful shot to the jaw--a native of Ohio suggesting that no-one would want to play for the Browns due to the weather and the "state of the Browns"--which is rather disturbing.

Keeping in mind that other destinations for free agents with bad weather, however choice destinations would include Green Bay and of course New England. It is hard to believe that weather conditions would stop a large number of players from signing with the likes of numerous teams that have "bad weather".

With weather not being the determining factor was Manningham clearly referring to the team as a whole, coaching staff, front office, the owner and keeping the cellar of the AFC North warm and cozy!

Due to the dormancy the Browns have displayed in this years free agency (thus far) along with previous years one must wonder if this is what GM Tom Heckert meant when he stated not to expect the Browns to "go crazy" in free agency--maybe what he meant was that no-one was crazy about coming here!

This gives a whole new outlook on the Holmgren and Heckert plan--a plan to build through the draft. If no-one wants to come to Cleveland via free agency this is not a plan, it is what you are stuck with and what you are stuck with is a limited amount of picks that you must hit the payload on every pick!

If Manningham is correct, this losing tradition the Browns have found themselves involved in since 1999 has limited the Browns ability to attract high profile players in free agency. Rebuilding through the draft is an excellent plan, a plan that takes time and with problems that could be addressed via free agency--provided anyone wants to come here and the Browns are willing to "open the wallet" to entice them to do so!

Mario Manninghan is exactly correct, the Browns are awful, will continue to be until "WE" ( the fan base) hold the organization accountable.. As many needs as we have they NEVER go after any of the top free-agents players or head coaches on the market, they continue to hire these head coaches with no NFL head coaching experience AND go after players that are way past their prime. When we do get a player that transforms into a top player in the league and that player is due a new contract they let the player walk because they are cheap and dont want to pay to keep him. As a result we end up being the laughing stock of the league, and like Mario Manninghan stated no one wants to play for the Browns. Lets pray that Mike Holmgren can be the diffrence maker in all this..It puzzles me how other organizations can go out and find coaches and players we never heard of and by seasons end those players and coaches are household names in the league. Outside of a few players, ( i.e. Josh Cribbs, Joe Thomas among others) that dosent happen with the Browns.(not a coincidence) they purposely go out to get the least experienced and not so highly skilled players and coaches because they are cheaper, every once in a while one may slip through the cracks, but guaranteed they will be gone within 2 seasons. WE" ( the fan base) deserve way more than that, The Cleveland Browns franchise overall is a historical and legendary franchise that when Art Modell up and left for Baltimore fought to bring a franchise back and keep the name and colors, and won that battle.. I / WE love that DAWG PAWND ORANGE & BROWN...However, it's my belief that this is exactly what ownership of the organization feeds off of. They know that we eat, drink and sleep Browns football, so no matter what they put out on that field WE will be there selling out that stadium EVERY home game and buying all that gear..Lets not just be happy that they are back anymore Its going on year 13 and we have only had a few winning seasons and 1 playoff apperance, and we have only beat Pittsburgh once or twice in that time span. NOT GOOD ENOUGH..If they are going to continue to not put out quality product week in and week out which we deserve... LETS STOP GOING TO THE GAMES & SUPPORTING THEM...lets stop spending our hard earned money on the junk they continue to give us in return!!!!!!!!   DAWG PAWND NATION

right on Dawg Pound. I live in PA and have been a Browns fan my entire life. I spend alot of money going to atleast 4 games a year.(about a 4 hour drive) I always stay at a hotel (Hampton Inn). I'am sick of walking to the stadium to watch them blow. Last season really hurt, Shurmer is a bum. I know they didn't have a off season but I don't think Shurmer new his offense, how can you teach it when you dont know it.

Did anyone want to play in SF circa 1978?
Did anyone want to play in Green Bay circa 1988?
Did anyone ever want to play in Seattle prior to 1998?
Has anyone wanted to play in Cleveland since 1998?

This front office was built to overcome this obstacle through their collective experiences and blood, sweat and tears it took to become who they are. Their patience and perserverance is unequalled by any fan, any FO, AND ANY WHINY ASSED PRIMA DONNA SNOTNOSED BRAT THAT CALLS HIMSELF A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER !!!
They ARE the demon slayers we've needed here since 1999. Revel in and enjoy the ride. Our own patience will not be lost.
