Peyton Hillis joins the Chiefs, Frostee Rucker comes to the Browns.

Drama with the Cleveland Browns, and RB Peyton Hillis have finally come to an end. The Kansas City Chiefs announced via Twitter that the team and Hillis have agreed to terms. The contract is reportedly a one-year $3 million dollar deal. This announcement ends what has to be one of the most bizarre “daytime soap-like” sagas to have occurred in Cleveland since LaBron’s dramatic decision to leave the Cavaliers.

Hillis became an instant fan favorite during the 2010 season bringing a tough running style not seen by the Browns since former great Kevin Mack. The Browns fans then vaulted Payton Hillis to the forefront of the league when they voted and helped Hillis win the 2012 Madden cover contest. But from there however, things went very, very wrong.

A case of strep throat, a bad hamstring pull, locker room tensions, and contract disputes all contributed to a very disappointing year for the 6-foot-2, 250-pound running back. The off-season did not provide much relief for Hillis as stories began to surface about his possible retirement from football, and a new career with the C.I.A. Hillis would later call these stories “ridiculous”. Add to the fact that Hillis has essentially played musical chairs with agent firings one after the next. After all this and you begin to understand the “circus” his situation has created in the city that once loved the bruising running back.

Also today Cleveland finally made a move in free agency signing former Cincinnati Bengals DE Frostee Rucker. The former 3rd round pick of the Bengals signed a five-year contract worth $21 million. The deal includes $8 million guaranteed to the former Bengal, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Rucker will come in to compete with defensive ends Jaime Mitchell opposite of last year’s rookie standout DE Jabaal Sheard. This will hopefully firm up the defensive line which was 30th in the NFL in stopping the run game.
