OMG……..Warren Sapp picks the Cleveland Browns to be next in line to win their first Super Bowl.
Well, I’m sure like many of you in Browns’ Country are as shocked as we are here at C.B.R. I did not think that I would live to see someone choose Cleveland as a favorite since coming back to the league in 1999. But shockingly someone has put the Browns front and center. Former All-Pro great and NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp has chosen Cleveland to be next in line to win their first Super Bowl.
The great speculative debate began when NFL Network’s Gregg Rosenthal perplexed the NFL world by saying that the Carolina Panthers would be the next team without a Super Bowl Championship to win their first. And everyone outside of Charlotte pretty much disagreed. And it’s not that it is a huge stretch. With Cam Newton at the helm Carolina has it’s franchise QB, but there is still a lot to be done in Charlotte.
But an even bigger curve ball came when Warren Sapp not only chose Cleveland to be the next team to win the Lombardi Trophy in franchise history, but he also backed it up with his beliefs about the team.
"They have a quarterback now, they have a running back -- in (Trent) Richardson and (they have Brandon) Weeden -- this is what you need to jump-start your franchise," Sapp said on “NFL Total Access" on Wednesday. "There's no more fumbling on the 1-yard line, there's no more 'Drive' for you to cry over. ... It's the Cleveland Browns. They'll be next."
This “unusual” defense of a struggling Browns franchise set fan’s of the Dawg Pound on fire. Twitter exploded and the Cleveland Plain Dealer ran with the story. Looking at the activity you would have thought the Browns DID win the Super Bowl. To me this is less of a prediction with weight as it is a welcome sound bite to a fan base which is largely ignored in national media. After all, Sapp is not exactly known for being a “genius” in the world of football IQ. He is a good analyst for the same reason that he was an interesting player. He’s “colorful”. This isn’t exactly news, but it’s pretty cool.
