Cleveland Browns QB McCoy must now deal with his brother Case sounding off.

What is it about the McCoy family that makes them think that it’s ok to be so publicly vocal about things in Cleveland? On Friday, Colt McCoy’s brother Case ripped the Browns on Twitter after a fake rumor hit the social networking site.

A fake ESPN Twitter feed had stated a rumor of Colt McCoy being traded to Philadelphia. After seeing this Colt’s brother Case took the opportunity to voice his opinion in a “not” so professional manner.

Case McCoy @CaseMcCoy6
“Good luck Brandon [Weeden]!” Case McCoy tweeted. “Fan of you, but my brother's pulling the lucky straw on this one! Cleveland is only going downhill!”

Later the rumor and fake ESPN Twitter account was debunked and Case found himself back-peddling like a DB covering Larry Fitzgerald.

Case McCoy @CaseMcCoy6
“Want to apologize for my tweet last night. It was definitely uncalled for and not at all what i stand for! Blood just runs deeper than sport colors. I'm thankful to be playing the sport I love. But with that comes responsibility and I didn't handle that well last night.”

In all honesty it is nice to see a family stick together like the McCoy’s seem to do, however publicly ripping the NFL franchise that a family member of yours plays for is simply ridiculous. And of course this isn’t the first incident. In December of last year Colt’s father Brad McCoy ripped the Browns for not properly checking his son for a concussion before sending him back into a game in Pittsburgh. Now his brother Case takes a shot at Cleveland for trading his brother. What s next? When and if McCoy does get traded will we hear from mother McCoy or possibly Grandma? It would be rather entertaining to see a senior citizen with blue hair on ESPN ripping Holmgren and company. It would especially be a bonus if she has that “Texas” accent. It would kind of be like the old TV series “Momma’s House” but with an NFL twist.

The one thing that I find truly disappointing in all this is that it does not hurt the Browns at all. But what it does do however is damage Colt McCoy’s future in the NFL. What team will be willing to take a shot on McCoy with this type of baggage tied around his ankles. No GM will want the negative press associated with a player especially if you plan on having him as a backup. I like Colt McCoy. He is a good kid and a fine player. Unlike most in Cleveland I still believe that Colt could be a starter in this league. He was a victim of circumstance and although I do feel that Weeden will be better for the Browns, I do think that Colt can compete with many in this league.

As a side note, Case McCoy is also a quarterback at the University of Texas. If he is willing to criticize an NFL franchise for a business decision, don’t you think it may damage his market value when he is ready to come into the league?

Hopefully the McCoy family can learn from this “side show” and let Colt handle his own situation. Never before has a player’s family made headlines on behalf of their family member. And I do not think we will ever see it again. It’s just common sense.
