The Cleveland Browns lose Veteran Safety Mike Adams in free Agency.

The Cleveland Browns lost a valuable part of their secondary Thursday with the Denver Broncos agreeing to terms with safety Mike Adams. Adams has been an important part of Cleveland’s defensive backfield for years playing any, and every role asked of him. During the 2011 season Adams started in all 16 of the Browns games, and snagged a team high 3 interceptions in the process. What makes Mike Adams so valuable is that he can play all the positions in the defensive backfield. He can play corner, safety, and is also an excellent special teams player as well.
Mike Adams came to Cleveland in the 07-08 season from the San Francisco 49ers. Adams has played in no less than 13 games in each of the 5 season he has been with the Browns. During that time he averaged just above 40 tackles per season. He is one of the most under-rated players in the NFL today, and provides a much needed veteran presence to a young defensive squad. But the most disturbing part of losing Adams in free agency is that according to Adams (Via Twitter), the team did not offer him a contract.
“clev didnt offer a contract for me 2 stay, so now im a Bronco. I went hard every play 4 u clev! I will miss that locker room, and the fans!”
So what does this mean for the Browns?
Cleveland’s defense was number two in the league in pass defense during the 2011 season surrendering only 147.9 yards per game, and Adams was a big part of that success. The Browns will have both safeties T.J Ward and Osama Young returning. In addition Joe Haden, Sheldon Brown, and Dimitri Patterson are all under contract for the 2012 campaign.
With Adams departing the Browns are likely to rely more on 2nd year DB’s Eric Hagg, James Dockery, and Buster Skrine. It is also possible that the Browns look to find a safety in the draft to compliment T.J. Ward. Some options include Alabama’s Mark Barron, or Notre Dame’s Harrison Smith. But with offense being a major issue for the Browns, expect them to focus on Offense in the early rounds.

The Cleveland Browns fans don't care about this. What the do care about is that Cleveland better get an NFL caliber quarterback before the season starts, or they are going to have a mass mutiny with all of their fans abandoning the joke team that the Cleveland Browns have become. Cleveland Management is going to lose a ton of money if they do not get an NFL caliber quarterback for the Cleaveland Browns before the season starts!
